Grid-Tied SystemsIntroductionA grid-tied system (aka on-grid, utility interactive, or grid-intertied) is a solar panel array and component system that provides electricity in addition to the electricity that you consume from the utility company. It is tied in to the breaker panel in your house just like the kWh meter is from the utility grid. A two-way meter can also be installed, so the excess electricity you generate from the solar panels can be put back into the grid, rolling your electricity meter backwards, and having costs credited back into your account (known as net metering or net billing). |
