Sun Tracking DevicesSub-tracking devices are a way to follow the sun across the sky and orient the solar panel for maximum solar absorption. They come in 1 and 2 axis models; the 1 axis can track the sun during it’s daily route across the sky, and the 2 axis can do that plus adjust for seasonal tilt elevation differences. This can be a good way to maximize efficiency, but a cost-benefit analysis must be looked into first. These tracking systems can increase efficiency 25-30%, but these systems usually cost large amounts of money. A simple way to increase production 25-30% would be to spend a fraction of the cost and buy more solar panels, instead of an expensive system that tracks the sun. The panels won’t be as efficient without the tracking devices, but the increased system size will provide the same electric loads at a fraction of the price. |
