Photovoltaic panels (aka solar panels, PV panels, etc.) are made of solar cells that can produce electricity. Those cells are made of semi-conductive materials such as silicon that release electrons and protons when hit with sunlight. Those individual charges are then captured and routed to the rest of the system to be used throughout the household or sold back to the utility company.
