DX geothermal systems are usually about the same cost to install and operate as a standard water loop geothermal system. DX systems have a smaller earth loop footprint, so there is much less excavation work than a standard system, but that cost is usually equaled out by the more expensive copper loop material and the cost of drilling the loops.

Of course all systems are different, and depending on the location of the project, one system may be a much smarter economic option than the other.
