DX systems have a theoretical advantage over standard systems due to the reduced size and cost of the earth loop and the higher efficiencies of thermal transfer achieved by the copper/refrigerant earth loop. The disadvantage of DX is the lack of forgiveness of the installation of the earth loop and very limited choice of manufacturers. The overall lack of wide spread acceptance by the industry is also a disadvantage. Qualified and experienced installers are harder to find.
