They have very few moving parts, and no equipment outside, so maintenance they are highly reliable as well as sheltered from the wear and tear of an outdoor unit. Maintenance requirements are small, and usually less than a conventional system.

There is also no risk for carbon monoxide poisoning with a geothermal system, because there is nothing being burned that could possibly leak into your home.

It also has no fans or loud burners to kick on that you constantly notice around the house. Also there is no noisy outside air conditioning unit that can disrupt outdoor activity.
